Overcoming the effects of trauma, (whether it be developmental, a past event or a recent event) is a very personal and individualized process. I provide a non- judgmental and empathetic environment where you can feel safe and heard. Everyone responds to traumatic events differently and no one can put a time table on healing, Reach out and let's do this together.
Human beings respond to traumatic events differently and there is no timetable when it comes to recovery and healing. Re-telling of our story over and over, however, will not bring healing, it will not help us to move forward. It will keep us stuck in the “flight or fight” aspect of our emotionalism and the function of our nervous system.
I know, it can be extremely difficult to come forward and share our story. The shame we may feel and the concern that no one will believe us, or that some may even blame us – can be overwhelming and even paralyzing.
This should NOT have happened to you. I am so sorry this has happened to you.
It is not your fault. You did NOT do anything to deserve this.
Let me tell you – you are not alone. I really mean this. There is hope. There are so many of us who are survivors of physical, sexual and emotional violence and abuse. Whether it is one traumatic event or repeated abuse, as a child or as an adult – our wellbeing is adversely affected.
We may experience disassociation, which a copping mechanism where the mind “separates” from the memories of past events, and from certain triggering events or people in the present. We may feel like we are not connected to our body or to the world around us. It may be difficult to connect fully to the present moment – with our partners, our family, our friends.
Anxiety and depression as a result of these traumatic events will affect our resilience and our ability to cope with stress. Our self-esteem can be very low, regardless of any praise we may receive, often resulting in feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness.
Emotional, physical and other symptoms can include Impulsive actions, difficulty in controlling our anger, substance abuse, addiction, inability to trust others and the world around us, being easily confused, sexual impairment or dysfunction, chronic health conditions and pain.
If you are experiencing any of these life-impairing symptoms, know that there is hope.
You can live a free and joyful life. You can BE Well.
What is the first step?
Talk to someone. Tell your story to someone who will listen with empathy and without judgment,
Then the healing can begin.
